About

“Photography is

more than a medium

for factual communication of ideas.

It is a creative art.” – Ansel Adams

Emilio Ortiz Guinand was born in Caracas, Venezuela. He moved with his family to the United States in 2002, first living in Florida for several years before relocating permanently to New York City. Since losing his parents at a young age - his father a musician, his mother an actress, - Emilio has lived an adventurous life, having been a social advocate and political leader, bookstore clerk, steelworker, teacher,  radio actor and television dubber, restaurant dishwasher, handyman, resort maintenance worker, IT Systems Administrator, Linux and Open Source advocate, a blogger and more. Emilio has always been self-taught and he's passionate about a lot of things, but especially Astronomy, Technology and Photography.

Emilio picked photography back up after a long hiatus, when he was diagnosed with a genetic and incurable condition affecting his central vision. His approach to photography is eclectic, although he has some preference for landscape and street works.

Aware of the limitations of his resources and equipment, he adapts his photography to what is available to him, but always with the firm conviction that you can produce creative work even without expensive lenses and cameras.

This web site is part of Emilio's larger project to share his photographic work, a project which also includes his photo-blog “Last Round in Sight”.
